Design and Construction Phase Management System

Organizational management structures have been established for the DGR project to ensure that responsibilities for performing activities are kept separate from the responsibilities for review and oversight. The internal allocation of functions, responsibilities and authorities are such that at any moment in time during the project, the health and safety of workers and general public, and the environment are protected, and all regulatory requirements are met in accordance with the applicable acts and regulations. The NWMO has been contracted by OPG to conduct all activities associated with the design and construction of the DGR. Prior to the D&C phase, that is during the Regulatory Approvals phase, NWMO has been contracted to conduct all activities related to the environmental assessment and obtaining the site preparation and construction licence for the facility.
